TJMaxx.com: View Similar Functionality

We designed and developed a new functionality that was added within the My Favorites section of our site. When a user has any out of stock items, they'll now have the opportunity to 'see similar styles' based on the original item. Since T.J.Maxx has a unique off-price buying model, when items go out of stock they almost never come back; which is a much different experience from most other retailers. To turn this negative experience into a positive, the view similar functionality was born. After seeing positive metrics on the new feature, we were then tasked with incorporating the experience throughout the site on our browse and search results pages. The thought being that this feature plays into the 'T.J.Maxx treasure hunt' idea, which is what shopping our brick-and-mortar stores is like, but without requiring the user to perform the actual 'hunting.'
